The foundation's core Water and Sanitation (WASH) program addresses the dire consequences of water scarcity, contamination, and poor sanitation, which are exacerbated during natural disasters like the 2022 floods in Pakistan. SCF works tirelessly to provide immediate relief while also focusing on sustainable solutions that empower communities and improve their long-term health outcomes.

Access to clean water is a fundamental human right, yet millions of people still lack this basic necessity. SCF's commitment extends beyond immediate relief to sustainable water management practices, including renewable energy solutions to power water sources for agricultural and household consumption.

Climate-Resilient Water & Sanitation Systems

SCF secured a grant of USD 63,982 for the construction of climate-resilient water filtration plants and sanitation systems in six flood-affected villages in District Matiari. This initiative provides access to clean drinking water for approximately 6,000 community members and safe sanitation facilities for around 850 individuals daily.

With support from PPAF and NBP, SCF constructed 10 Reverse Osmosis (RO) water filtration plants and 200 household toilets in flood-affected communities across Matiari and Thatta districts. SCF has installed 10 additional RO water filtration plants across 10 villages in remote and climate-affected areas.

Through these interventions, SCF is contributing to: reduced incidence of waterborne diseases; improved hygiene and sanitation practices; enhanced climate resilience of rural infrastructure; and safer living conditions for flood-affected communities.

Sanitation Facilities, Hygiene Education & ODF Villages

SCF's WASH program goes beyond infrastructure by providing education on hygiene practices. SCF works with communities to install secure toilets and raise awareness about hand-washing, menstrual hygiene, and general hygiene practices. SCF conducts health and hygiene awareness campaigns on safe water practices and prevention of diseases like cholera and dysentery.

SCF is implementing a social mobilization project in Matiari focused on achieving Open Defecation Free (ODF) status for 600 villages. The organization has ensured and certified 600 villages as ODF free.

SCF has implemented WASH projects in Jamshoro, Matiari, and Tando Muhammad Khan with support from Consulate General Japan, achieving access to safe drinking water and latrine facilities for 23,000 flood-affected population. With Association of Development of Pakistan USA, SCF ensured water facilities for 5,060 flood-affected population in 10 villages of District TM Khan. With UNDP and Muslim Charity UK/Indigo Textile support, SCF provided hand pumps to 100 households and latrine facilities.
